Chesapeake Rotarians to hold wine festival

CHESAPEAKE

The Chesapeake Rotary Club will host its second annual fundraising Chesapeake Virginia Wine Festival Saturday from noon to 6 p.m., rain or shine, at Chesapeake City Park, 900 Greenbrier Pkwy.

Tickets are $30 advance and $35 at the gate. The price includes a souvenir wine glass and the opportunity to sample more than 40 different wines from the commonwealth and around the world.

Proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Virginia, the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters' diabetes initiative, Chesapeake Care, the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center's Sid Oman Cancer Center, the Chesapeake Sheriff's Elederly and Indigent Victims Assistance Program, the HER Shelter, Our House Families, the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, Together We Can and various Chesapeake Rotary Club charities.

Last year's inaugural event drew around 7,800 people to Chesapeake City Park and raised $150,000 for various Chesapeake, regional and national non-profits.

The event will feature tastings of wines from 14 Virginia wineries as well as those from the Pacific Northwest, California, South America, South Africa and Europe. Entertainment will be provided by Lewis and Kayce McGehee and the Borderline Crazy Trio.

In addition, foods and desserts will be prepared and sold by Passion, the Restaurant; the Grapevine Restaurant; Thai Terrace; the Broken Egg Bistro; Cabot Cheeses; and the Cape Charles Rotary Club.
