DMV: No new or renewed licenses this weekend

Posted to: News Virginia

Department of Motor Vehicles offices won’t be able to process new driver's license applications or renew licenses this weekend because of computer system maintenance at the Social Security Administration.

DMV verifies Social Security numbers when processing new driver’s licenses and some license renewals, but verification will not be available Saturday, a DMV news release says.

Drivers who want to apply for a license for the first time or renew a license should visit a DMV office before Saturday or wait until Tuesday. All of the agency’s offices will be closed Monday for Columbus Day.

Customers who cannot conduct their transactions at a DMV customer service center will be given a letter they can present at the information desk next week for expedited service.
