PORTSMOUTH

Taquan M. Marshall, 19, was sentenced to serve 50 years in prison for the May 2010 shooting death of an Indian River High School student during a robbery.

Both Marshall and the victim, Hugo B. Arellano, were 17 at the time.

Arellano died from a close-range gunshot wound to the face, according to the medical examiner.

He was found inside a black Ford Explorer in the 1900 block of Nashville Ave. in Prentis Park.

A jury found Marshall guilty of second-degree murder, robbery and two weapons counts in July.

Circuit Judge James A. Cales sentenced Marshall to a total of 75 years, with 25 suspended. Marshall must also serve 15 years of supervised probation upon his release.
