Manteo, N.C., marina to be auctioned off bit by bit

Posted to: Business Consumer - Retail North Carolina

Don't call it a do-over.

The second auction of Shallowbag Bay Club Marina in Manteo, N.C., in five years will be different this time.

Instead of selling the whole marina, Tranzon Fox has been hired to sell the assets piecemeal. Thirty-five slips, ranging from 25 to 60 feet, will be sold starting at 4 p.m. Friday. Slips will be sold regardless of price, according to Tranzon.

The Ship's Store, including a retail store, fuel pumps, office and communications tower, will be auctioned separately at 4:30 p.m.

Tranzon first auctioned the 73-slip marina in October 2006 for $2.3 million to the Vinings Marine Group LLC. Atlanta-based Vinings, which owns four marinas in Norfolk's Ocean View, defaulted because of the recession, according to Tranzon.

Vinings has already sold other slips for $1,800 per foot, ranging from $45,000 for a 25-foot slip to $108,000 for a 60-foot slip.

On the Roanoke Sound, Shallowbag Bay Club also has condominiums. Boat slip owners have full use of the club's swimming pool, exercise room, club-house and showers.
