RALEIGH, N.C.
New abortion restrictions in North Carolina are set to take effect without a key portion of the measure, which focused upon ultrasounds for pregnant women.
Women will be subject to a 24-hour waiting period and have access to information about the risk of abortion and alternatives to the procedure starting Wednesday. The General Assembly approved the law this summer when it overrode Gov. Beverly Perdue's veto.
A federal judge on Tuesday blocked a provision in which a medical professional performing an ultrasound at least four hours before a scheduled abortion put the image in a place where the woman may view it. The provider also would have had to offer the woman the chance to listen to the fetal heart beat.

Civility?
I was raised a Christian, taught that it was wrong, decided to be ok with it anyway. Came to the conclusion later that I wished I had a change of heart earlier, but she likely would have had it anyway, her mom definitely wanted it. The question I ask myself is this...will outlawing it make abortions stop? NO. Will it make people looks for other means to have abortions? YES. Does God what it to stop? YES. Will he stop loving you if you have one? NO. Will he turn you away from the gates of heaven if you had one (or paid for one?) NO, not if you've confessed. Consider what you want for you is not what others want, murder or not. God will take care of it all anyway. I suggest we consider trying to change the behavior through love, not law.
ncguy, once again
Not a 'baby', not a person, not murder.
This has nothing to do with eugenics and everything to do with personal freedom and privacy.
Don't want an abortion? Don't have one. Don't get anyone pregnant.
Don’t presume to tell me what to do.
Want to end abortion? Teach and encourage protected sex, teach young women self esteem and teach young men that ‘no means no’ and that they don’t have a ‘right’ to have sex because they take a girl to the movies or dinner. Work to stop date rape, marital rape, and acquaintance rape.
No more unwanted pregnancies means no more abortions.
It is a baby
It IS a baby. It IS murder. Ever seen the video of a partial birth abortion? They deliver the head of the child, stick an instrument up in the back of the skull and scramble the brains. Please, for goodness sake, tell me that you do understand that that is murder in any form?
You are right about third
You are right about third trimester abortion. I don't think (unless there is a threat to the mothers' life) second term abortions should be legal. However, as much as I know people who can't have children would happily take any child they can get, I don't think it is right to force a woman to have a child or give it up for adoption so I am not against 1st term abortions EXCEPT when people start using abortion as birth control! So I think going straight to the third term abortion is a little excessive since that was not going to be allowed anyways. I agree with your theory just not your execution (pardon the pun)
No it's not,
and we're not talking 3rd trimester delivery of fetuses' that are grossly deformed, incapable of life outside the womb or already dead. We're talking 1st trimester, legal abortions of less then 12 ounces of tissue.
As a medical professional I've seen too many unwanted, born children abused in ways that you can not begin to imagine.
Don't want an abortion? Don't get one.
Educate yourself, educate your girl children, educate your boy children
Wow
undoubtedly the most moronic reply I've ever seen on here, and that's saying something! I have educated myself on the matter, as a matter of fact, I AM one of those potentially aborted children. My biological mother was pushed towards abortion, and resisted. I was adopted by a great couple who couldn't have children, and have had a great life, have a great daughter, have contributed to society, and given and received love from many.
Thanks for setting yourself up on this. GAME, SET, MATCH!
Happy for you
I am extremely happy that your life went well but you cannot deny that TONS of unwanted children are born every year & are treated in the most unhumane ways possible. If you were not one of the lucky few, you would be singing a very different tune right now. I also think that if a mother can do what your mother did & give a baby up for adoption rather than abort it, they should, but there are some people out there who just couldn't survive doing that which also leads to a life ended too soon. I've witnessed this abuse first hand & the children always ask, "Why was I born?" I take it on a case by case basis. Like I said, you were lucky, others are not and you shouldn't want them to suffer anymore than they should've wished you were aborted.
Very sad
It's sad to see a medical professional endorse murder. What happens costly elder care where the person has no family to look after them? If left in the caring hands of "medical professionals" our elderly could certainly be deemed as 175 lbs of tissue with little quality of life. Certainly not enough quality to justify their inconvenience for those supporting them ...
What is the difference between a human being at 3 months gestation needing complete life support, at 3 months needing almost complete life support, and a 90 year old who needs someone to feed them, change their diapers, and connect them to an oxygen bottle? Answer: 1 bad law
Some people will only see the value of life when it is their own plug being yanked from the wall.
Question
So are you saying that abortion before 12 weeks is okay? Because that is what we are talking about here. Also older people have fully developed organs and tissue so it's not the same thing at all. Would you be okay if someone wanted to die and chose to end their life? After all it would be inhumane to make an animal suffer the way some people suffer so we put them out of their misery and they don't get to voice their opinion about it, why can't a fully developed human have that right especially since they can voice their opionion. Mother's who abort 1st term babies are doing what they think is best for both them and their child why is that different?
not at all
I was pulling numbers out of thin air when I was mentioning development days aka 12 weeks.
As far as people ending their own lives, while I believe it to be wrong, there is nothing illegal about killing oneself, and even if it was, there would be nobody to hold accountable if the person is successful. I do not believe it it should be legal to assist someone with killing themselves. People can be convinced to end their lives, due to being a burden, lonely, destitute, etc. If they want to end it bad enough, they would not need help.
As a social construct, we either value human life or not. It's clear where you stand on the value of life
