Photos: Counting baby oysters in Norfolk

Posted to: Environment News Norfolk

Tommy Leggett, Virginia Oyster Restoration and Fisheries scientist for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, cleans oysters with a power washer at the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, as volunteer "spat catchers" return their cages of oyster shells on which spat (baby oysters) attached themselves. The oysters are then placed on an oyster reef in the Lafayette River to clean the river and grow the oyster population.
