Rove coming to Regent, Cain to northern Va.

Members of the George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations will be in Virginia Beach Friday for Regent University's running debate series, Clash of the Titans.

Obama staffers Lawrence Summers and Robert Gibbs will face Bush advisor Karl Rove and former U.S. Sen. Alan Simpson, R-Wyoming, in a back-and-forth about which major political party has the best ideas for solving the nation's economic crisis.

Moderate by FOX News host Brett Baier, the debate is the ninth Regent has held since 2003.

Days after the debate, another national political figure will make a return visit Virginia.

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain will discuss his economic plans next Wednesday in northern Virginia sponsored by the Northern Virginia Technology Council and the Consumer Electronics Association.

Earlier this month, Cain signed copies of his book in Lynchburg then spoke at the Family Foundation gala in Richmond.

A statement announcing Cain's appearance said invitations have also been extended to President Barack Obama, and GOP presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

UPDATE: One of our observant tweeps reminded us that another prominent figure is coming to the state soon -- former Vice President Dick Cheney will discuss his new memoirs Nov. 16 at the University of Virginia's Miller Center.
