A Circuit Court judge Monday sentenced a 60-year-old man to 25 years in prison for the July 2007 killing of his girlfriend during an argument at his home on Thousand Oaks Drive, the commonwealth's attorney's office said.

Henry Donald Peterson pleaded guilty in May to second-degree murder and using a firearm in a felony, online court records show.

According to a stipulation of evidence in the case, Peterson shot Laquetta Patrice Mullen, 33, at least four times as she crouched in a closet.

After the shooting, Peterson called a relative to report what he had done and asked the relative to call 911, the court document states. Peterson told police the pair had been arguing and Mullen was "acting crazy" when he shot her, the stipulation said.

Police found Mullen in the closet. She had been shot twice in the back and once in each foot, the document said.

Judge H. Thomas Padrick sentenced Peterson to 38 years and suspended 13 years, according to a news release from prosecutors.
