A 19-year-old died in an automobile accident in the Pungo section of the city early Saturday.
When authorities arrived in the 3700 block of West Neck Road about 1:10 a.m., they found that a 2000 Nissan Xterra had crashed, and a 19-year-old male passenger had died, according to Sgt. Brian Ricardo, a police spokesman. The vehicle had run off the road, struck some trees and landed in a ditch.
The 19-year-old driver, Christopher A. Sell, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. A 21-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries.
Sell, of the 2200 block of Rayburn Lane, was charged with driving under the influence, voluntary manslaughter, illegal possession of alcohol and possession of an identification belonging to another person.
Police withheld the name of the dead passenger until his family could be notified.
