Virginia Beach police, in partnership with Cintas Document Management Co., will shred documents at two locations Saturday.
Residents can bring bills and other documents with sensitive information - such as account and Social Security numbers - for shredding, according to a police news release. "Shred Day" is part of a crime-prevention initiative aimed at countering identity theft. The event is free, although police ask that people bring canned goods for a food drive.
Shredding will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. at Marian Manor, 5345 Marian Lane, and from11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 4560 Princess Anne Road.
