PORTSMOUTH

A judge sent two charges against Marc Andreas Allmond, an I.C. Norcom High School teacher, to a grand jury Thursday.

Allmond, 30, is accused of having inappropriate relations with a student.

Three of the original charges against the teacher and coach - aggravated sexual battery, object sexual penetration and contributing to the delinquency of a minor - were dropped at Thursday's hearing in Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.

Allmond waived a preliminary hearing on the remaining charges - indecent liberties by someone in a custodial or supervisory relationship and carnal knowledge of a minor. The grand jury will meet Dec. 1.

Allmond was arrested earlier this month and has been out on a $1,000 bond.

Police said in a news release at the time of his arrest that the student's parents had contacted police after they found inappropriate text messages on her phone.

The Virginian-Pilot does not name juvenile victims of crimes.
