Chesapeake event offers hand up for homeless vets

CHESAPEAKE

Local veterans organizations and the city of Chesapeake will host a stand-down for homeless veterans today.

The event will include free haircuts, showers, food, flu shots, personal hygiene items, clothes and glasses, as well as provisions for female vets and their children. Representatives will also be on hand to help with VA claims, Social Security, housing programs, health care, and tests for diabetes and hearing and vision problems.

The event runs from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dr. Clarence V. Cuffee Community Center, 2019 Windy Road, in Chesapeake.

Lunch will be served at noon.
