MOYOCK, N.C.
A Chesapeake man was killed Friday when the car he was driving ran off Tulls Creek Road in Moyock, striking a culvert and flipping three times.
Christopher Mapes, 22, of Chesapeake was driving about noon Friday in a 1990 Nissan traveling 90 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone on Tulls Creek Road, a narrow highway that runs parallel to and east of N.C. 168, said Sgt. T.C. White of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Trooper J.R. Chappell investigated the accident.
Mapes ran off the right side of the road, about nine miles south of the Chesapeake border, hit a sign, then hit a culvert before flipping three times and being thrown from the car.
