Hampton Roads Transit is holding two hearings today on proposed bus service reductions.
The agency plans to trim about 21 percent of the lowest-ridership bus trips in January, which will save as much as $4.2 million.
The first hearing will be in Suffolk, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Suffolk Health and Human Services Building, 135 Hall Ave., third floor, and will be on the elimination of bus routes 71, 72, 73 and 74.
The second is in Virginia Beach, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Princess Anne High School library, 4400 Virginia Beach Blvd., on changes to routes 31 and 37.

Save more. Park the buses.
Park those big, nearly empty, gas-guzzling, pollution-belching behemoths.
Buy 12-passenger vans and stretch limos and provide door-to-door service for those who need it.
no brainer...
The proposed changes are estimated to save the transit agency up to $4.2 million,HRT says.
In November,City of Suffolk announced it has hired Virginia Regional Transit, a Purcellville-based non-profit company, to provide bus service starting in January when its agreement with Hampton Roads Transit expires.
Another case of spin doctors at work, see how we are saving...
smart move
Maybe the other cities should dump HRT too.
Hopes
I wonder if the plethora of complainers in the comments section of this site will actually go to one of the hearings. I hope so. I doubt it. I'll be there tonight.
