Posted to: Environment News Norfolk

NORFOLK

City residents and businesses can recycle their unwanted electronic equipment today for free at an event celebrating America Recycles Day.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., devices such as old cellphones, computer monitors, DVD players, fax machines, printers, home and office phones, stereos, VCRs and TVs will be accepted at the main entrance to The Gallery at Military Circle, in the 800 block of N. Military Hwy. in Norfolk.

Participants can bring up to one pickup full of equipment. Also, free document shredding and plastic bag recycling will be offered.

A similar event is planned in Yorktown.

Sponsors of the "e-cycling" day are Waste Management, LG Electronics USA and Keep America Beautiful. Waste Management will take all materials to one of its regional recycling centers and break them down into reusable products. LG Electronics hopes to use some of the materials in its new equipment.
