A man who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in a deadly 2008 home invasion will spend 16 years in prison, the commonwealth's attorney's office said.
Deandre Jaquan Gordon, 21, was one of multiple people who broke into Nathan Lynch's Plaza Apartments home on Daytona Drive just after midnight Dec. 15.
Prosecutors said Gordon thought no one would be home at the time but found Lynch's mother there recovering from a hospital stay.
The burglars forced the woman around the home while demanding drugs and money, prosecutors said. Meanwhile, Lynch returned. He and Gordon struggled briefly by the back door before another man - 20-year-old Edward Aaron Powell - ran up and shot Lynch in the chest, killing him, prosecutors said.
Powell is serving a nearly 76-year prison sentence for first-degree murder, armed robbery, armed burglary, conspiracy and related firearms charges.
Gordon also pleaded guilty to armed burglary and conspiracy in the case. Circuit Court Judge William O'Brien sentenced him Wednesday to 34 years with 18 suspended.

That is the reason why some
That is the reason why some of these thugs do this because they know the system is screwed up and they will get lenient sentences from some shady defense lawyer. This is sad for innocent victims minding their own business. Our society is full of criminal minded thugs who want to harm innocent people. They need to make the sentences harsher. I think some of these defense lawyers who represent these thugs need to be locked up right along with them.
so... for the next sixteen years
he will have a life of luxury. He will not have to work to earn his keep. He can work out on the nice exercise machines and weights provided by our tax dollars so he'll be nice and healthy and be able to beat any guard around. He'll enjoy his leisurely days watching the latest movies and TV shows while YOU are working to pay taxes to provide him the latest electronic equipment to enjoy. Of course he'll have plenty of female visitors and maybe be able to get married and start a family while he's there. How about an article or series of articles with the truth about how the prison system works and just how much of a life of ease we are providing for convicted criminals?
Some people have a warped
Some people have a warped reality of what prison is really like.
Never been there ...
…and I never will but I’m pretty sure the people than are in there would rather be out here.
by the way...
he'll only be 39 years old when he get's out.
break in
Why the 18 suspended ?
probably sentencing guidelines and plea bargin
You can’t sentence everyone to life for everything. But I would definitely like to see very harsh sentences for any violent crimes against innocent victims or cops.
What is a "guilty victim"
What is a "guilty victim" then?
Only 16 yrs?
Only 16 yrs?
My first reaction too
The guy that actually pulled the trigger got 76 years. I hope that turns out to be life but I think it should have been life without parole in the first place.
