A woman was killed Sunday about 12:15 p.m. when the car she was riding in was struck as it crossed Halstead Boulevard.
The names of the woman, 83, and the man, 81, who was driving the car are not being released pending notification of next of kin, said Lt. John Etheridge of the Elizabeth City Police Department. The man is in critical condition at Albemarle Hospital.
The man, driving a 2002 Saturn, attempted to cross Halstead Boulevard from the Walgreens pharmacy to the Golden Corral restaurant. Michael Graessle of Elizabeth City was driving north in Ford Explorer on Halstead Boulevard when he struck the Saturn on the passenger side. No charges are pending against Graessle, and he was not injured, Etheridge said.
