Abortion-rights supporters meet with Va. gov's aides

Posted to: Health News Virginia

RICHMOND

Abortion-rights supporters met with Gov. Bob McDonnell's policy advisers to urge the governor to reject proposed abortion clinic regulations.

The regulations adopted by the state Board of Health in September will take effect Dec. 31 if signed by the governor. Critics say the regulations would force clinics to meet the same strict building guidelines as newly constructed hospitals, and would force most Virginia abortion facilities to close.

Representatives of the Virginia Coalition to Protect Women's Health on Thursday presented the administration with petitions containing the signatures of more than 40,000 opponents of the regulations.

The General Assembly passed legislation last winter requiring abortion clinics to be regulated like hospitals. Proponents say the goal is patient safety, while opponents say the real motive is to limit access to abortions.

Apples and Oranges

Nobody wants to debate this on a level playing field. Anti-Abortion folks believe in a woman's right to choose, just not in the choice to commit murder. Pro Choice folks believe that murder is illegal, but ripping out a fetus is not murder, it's like removing a wart. The debate should really be, "IS ABORTION MURDER". End of story. Pro Choice people don't want to debate that though.

Roe v Wade is a joke because of this, it will be overturned. What will then happen is the "Murder" question will have to be decided on a state by state basis. As it should be. Get off Gov case, he is only going to do what he was elected to do by the majority. If you are not in the majority, sucks for you.

Just a note:

In every state where the "People" have been allowed to vote on the abortion issue, the right of a women to choose an abortion has been upheld EVERY TIME! Latest was Mississippi. I do hope you took note.

FYI

My just a note was a reply to founding father.

actually,

Anti-Abortion folks DO believe in a woman's right to choose, just as long as they can dictate the choice.
Pro Choice folks DO that murder is illegal, and ripping out a fetus is murder when it happens in the stereotyped back-alley setting, with unqualified people and results in the death or severe maiming of the woman.

The Governor

is unlikely to not sign the legislation. After all he is going to pander to his conservative base, never mind a woman's right to choose. I do wish the ladies luck, but until we have a Democratic Governor, I don't see any hope of changing this law. Abortions will still be available in Virginia, but fewer clinics will be available. However, it may be overturned by SCOTUS as it violates (IMHO) the equal protection clause, but, I will wait and see.

the woman had the right to choose but once she conceives

she has the responsibility to protect. There is no choice in mudering, which is what an abortion is. Call it what you want, it is murdering a child just because a woman wants to. That person growing inside her has done nothing wrong to society that would justify killing him or her. We give rapists and murders chances and protections, but a baby, nope, if the mom chooses to slaughter it, all she has to do is claim it is not a person and she can happily slaughter the child and we as a society are suppose to accept it is her body thus her choice. Sorry lefties, but murdering a child is the worst thing a person can do in our society. Stop entraping women with this notion that she is not murdering her baby.

Aborting the life of a baby, so sad.

...

but at some point it can, which is why I'm against late term abortion unless the mother's life is at risk. But the other reason I disagree with that statement is that I don't think any woman, or certainly not a high percentage HAPPILY abort. It's usually a very difficult decision that many have a hard time living with for the rest of their life. They do it because they feel like that is their own choice at that moment. I can't believe someone would actually be so ignorant to think that women are leaving the abortion clinic popping champagne bottles in celebration. Also, you need to consider the life that the child could potentially have if the mother wanted to abort, but couldn't.

Waste of time probably

I'm sure this will have no effect on your thoughts, but I figured I would give it a shot. Yes, abortion is essentially killing a life that has done nothing to society, you are right about that. I have a child of my own, so I know that even if it doesn't look like it at 8 weeks, it really is just a bundle of cells, it will grow into a fully viable baby. I highly disagree with your statement, "if the mom chooses to slaughter it, all she has to do is claim that it's not a person and she can happily slaughter the child." First of all, let's be clear, it's not a person. It will be, but what is your definition of a person. Can it think? Can it breath air? Can it live on it's own? Not at 8 weeks, or 12 weeks, or 16 weeks..

More hyperbole, no

More hyperbole, no substance.

At the risk

of probably having it called a personal attack and deleted, I have to say this. I feel that if NCGUY were in fact NCGAL, there would be a different attitude. It is mainly those who are susceptible to rape, incestual pregnancy, or life threatening medical considerations who can know the pain and suffering caused by the above mentioned conditions and the necessity to make a life altering choice. I hope I am a male who can sympathize with and support those women who find themselves in these circumstances, and are blamed and dismissed as perpetrators rather than victims by holier than thou types who feel themselves obligated to pass judgement on others.
