Alabama brokerage buys Richmond-based firm

Sterne Agee Group Inc., an investment bank and brokerage company based in Birmingham, Ala., announced Wednesday that it completed its acquisition of Anderson Strudwick, a Richmond-based brokerage with an office in Norfolk.

Sterne Agee did not disclose terms of the sale but said it will expand its wealth-management business in East Coast and mid-Atlantic states and Knoxville, Tenn.

The deal added seven offices and about 50 advisers.

Anderson Strudwick, founded in 1948, has 18 offices in seven states. Sterne Agee, founded in 1901, has about 1,200 employees in 50 offices in 22 states, including two in Virginia.
