Breaches in N.C. 12 subject of meetings

Public workshops to explain the design options for permanently fixing the breaches caused by Hurricane Irene in N.C. 12 on Pea Island and at Rodanthe will be held today and tomorrow.

Citizens may drop in anytime between 4 and 7 p.m. today at the Dare County administration building at 954 Marshall C. Collins Drive in Manteo, or Tuesday at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Center at 23186 Myrna Peters Road in Rodanthe.

Representatives of the North Carolina Department of Transportation will be available to explain the design options and to answer questions.

Have a raffle at a set amount to cover
expenses. The winner gets to spend an
all-expense paid weekend anywhere on the Outer
Banks. The rest can be used for NC 12.
It's a thought...

fix?

i thought the idea was to let the new inlets remain in whatever shape nature wanted. is that not the whole idea behind the 'short bridge' alternative? there is no 'permanent' fix.
