Coast Guard flies ill cruise-ship passenger to Norfolk

 A Coast Guard helicopter took a sick passenger off the Queen Mary 2 on Monday afternoon while the ocean liner was about 110 miles east of Nags Head, N.C.
 
According to a news release, a Queen Mary 2 crew member contacted the Coast Guard watchstanders at 9:30 a.m., reporting that a female passenger had severe abdominal pain.
 
The 5th District Command Center dispatched a helicopter from the Elizabeth City Coast Guard station. The air crew picked up the 64-year-old woman and the ship’s physician at 4 p.m. and transferred them to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
