DataPilot | Virginia ABC liquor sales

Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Commission sales figures for 2010-2011 show that domestic vodka, flavored vodka and imported specialty liquors are big sellers in South Hampton Roads, while whiskey sells better elsewhere in the commonwealth.

Government Business

They can control the entire market on an optional product; and make a mint on it while their at it, yet limit your right in regards to when and what you're purchasing etc. Makes no sense. In many states you can buy alcohol in the local Walmart or grocery store with cheaper prices and better selection.

Booze

With the Crooked high mark up on every bottle of booze in Virginia. The Crooks in Richmond should not be CRYING about being short on money. All this EXTRA money should be going to fix the Roads in this Sorry State. Instead of making someone RICHER. Shame on Virginia.

just playing the devil's advocate but just because the article is not about a disaster or murder or car wreck makes it unworthy of being news?

the trouble with government in the alcohol businesses is. . .

...they play both side to the middle. It preaches sobriety and legislates consequences for overindulgence - yet it stocks what sells best which encourages overindulgence. It's a bad game.

They also deny purchases of multitudes of products available elsewhere because they don't or won't carry them. You can't even get them by request - you are denied them in this state. I hate a monopoly - especially by a government who ought to stay out of the role of private business in this country.
