Dominion gives big money to help preserve Beach land
Posted to: Dominion Virginia Power
Dominion Resources Inc., owner of Dominion Virginia Power, announced that it has donated $500,000 toward the preservation of Pleasure House Point in Virginia Beach.
It’s among just a dozen single gifts of at least that size that the Dominion Foundation, the company’s philanthropic arm, granted in the past five years. That’s because the environment is one of its top priorities, said Marjorie Grier, Dominion’s director of corporate philanthropy.
“The environment is a targeted area for us because we do have a big impact on the environment,” she said. “It is important for Dominion to be perceived as concerned about the environment.”
Dominion asked the Chesapeake Bay Foundation about projects that could use a large amount of funding. The bay-protection group is working with national conservation group The Trust for Public Land and the city of Virginia Beach to save 122-acres along the Lynnhaven River off Shore Drive from development.
“It’s an area where we can make a big grant and have an impact,” Grier said. “It’s a pristine area. It is gorgeous.” – Carolyn Shapiro

"It is important for Dominion to be perceived as concerned about the environment."
Speaks volumes.
You'd think someone would say that they actually ARE concerned about the environment and not just that it's important for people to THINK they are. The PR statement they were trying to make goes right down the tubes with that one statement.
