FC junior named state's top field hockey player

First Colonial junior Brooke Hiltz has been named Group AAA field hockey Player of the Year.

Hiltz, a midfielder, was previously named All-Tidewater Player of the Year and a first-team All-Eastern Region and All-Beach District selection. She scored 29 goals and had 27 assists to help the Patriots win their first state championship.

Hiltz was joined on the all-state first team by teammates Kelly Chesson, a junior forward, and Ellen Ross, a junior defender.

First Colonial’s Beanie Schleicher was named Coach of the Year.

Also making the first team were Casey DiNardo, a Cox senior forward who was the Beach and Eastern Region Player of the Year; Mallory Roach, a Cox junior midfielder; Cameron Daniels, a Cox senior defender; and Marianna Parker, a Kellam senior forward.

The second team included Lakeland sophomore forward Summer Parker, Ocean Lakes junior midfielder Delaney Leathers, First Colonial senior defender Emily Leonard, Lakeland sophomore defender Alexis Albright and Ocean Lakes senior goalie Heidi Pomposini.
