In response to concerns from elected leaders about how the Navy has handled reports of mold-infested military housing units near local bases, the Navy will hold two forums for residents this week, the first at 6 p.m. tonight.
Military families living in Lincoln Military Housing complexes in Norfolk and Virginia Beach have complained that the company - which operates thousands of housing units on land leased from the Navy - has ignored or mishandled complaints of water damage and mold inside some of the properties.
U.S. Rep. Scott Rigell toured some of the affected homes last week. Rigell, Rep. Bobby Scott and Sen. Mark Warner met with concerned residents Sunday and demanded action.
The forums will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today and Thursday. Tonight's meeting will be at Little Creek Community Center on Wellings Court in Virginia Beach.
Tomorrow's meeting is at Castle Acres Community Center on Norfolk Crossing in Norfolk.
The forums will give residents "an opportunity to learn about what military resources are available to them to locate appropriate rental housing and resolve landlord/tenant issues," according to a news release.
Navy and Lincoln Military Housing officials will attend the forums, as will as representatives from Navy and Marine Corps Public Health and Fleet and Family Readiness.
