Andrea P. Tottossy is resigning as principal of Maury High School to take a job outside the Norfolk system, the division confirmed Friday.

Assistant Principal Karen Berg will become interim principal starting Jan. 3, according to a letter sent to Maury students' homes on Friday.

"It has been a very rewarding and amazing experience to serve as the principal at Maury High School," Tottossy said in the letter. "I have learned and grown tremendously during these past three and a half years. I wish all our students and their families much success in the future."

Tottossy's letter, dated Dec. 16 and posted on the school's home page, does not say what or where her new job is.

Jack Baker, a Maury social studies teacher, will act as interim assistant principal.

Tottossy started in the division in 1999 as a Granby High assistant principal. From 2002 to 2008, she was principal at Northside Middle School. She was assigned to Maury in 2008.

Maury celebrated its centennial anniversary this year. The school, at 322 Shirley Ave., is one of Norfolk's five high schools.
