The name of a toddler who died in a house fire this weekend was released Monday.
Jamaire Brown, 2, was found dead at 620 Roanoke Ave. on Saturday after a fire that destroyed the home within minutes, Elizabeth City Fire Marshal Barry Overman said in a news release.
There were attempts to rescue the boy before firefighters arrived. Firefighters also tried to save Jamaire, but the flames and smoke kept them from entering the room where he was later found, Overman said.
Jamaire was in the house with his great-grandmother, Lillie Walker, and two other siblings, ages 7 and 1. Walker escaped with two of the three children. Walker's adult granddaughter and two other children lived there but were not home at the time of the fire, Overman said.
The fire was determined to be accidental. The cause has not been determined, but it started in the living room, Overman said.

My condolences
My prayers and condolences to the family of this 2 y/o baby. I can't imagine losing a child at any time of the year, but losing a sweet baby right before the holidays is unfathomable. He's now in God's heavenly playground, playing with all the other children who departed this world too early.
