N.C. woman killed after striking farm truck

ELIZABETH CITY

A Weeksville woman was killed after hitting a farm truck Tuesday.

Deborah Lee Armstrong, 55, of Weeksville Road was driving a Pontiac sedan at 3:12 p.m. south on Weeksville Road not far from her home when she drifted left of center and struck an oncoming farm truck driven by Kenneth Bateman, 49, of Elizabeth City, said Kristen Johnson, an administrator with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Trooper C.H. Allison investigated the accident.

Armstrong hit the truck on the driver’s-side fender, sending her car into the ditch, where it caught fire, Johnson said. Bateman’s truck veered into the opposite ditch.

Bateman was not seriously injured.
