Five people were displaced by a two-alarm apartment fire in the 5900 block of Jefferson Ave. on Saturday, a Fire Department spokesman said.
Chief Stephen C. Pincus said units were dispatched around 5 p.m. Three minutes later, they arrived to find flames spewing from the second floor of the two-story building.
Crews began an interior search immediately and evacuated the building about 10 minutes later.
A second alarm was called nearly 30 minutes later. The fire was under control around 9:30 p.m.
Pincus said a firefighter injured his foot and was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center. There were no other injuries.
The building sustained heavy fire and smoke damage and will be condemned.
Pincus said damage estimates were unavailable because the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
