City Councilwoman Angelia Williams announced Thursday night that she will seek re-election to represent Superward 7 in May.
Williams, who represents half the city, won a special election in November 2010. Speaking to nearly 100 supporters at the Norfolk Airport Hilton, including Mayor Paul Fraim, she touted her support for televised council meetings and her efforts to help bring a $30 million apartment development to the Campostella Heights neighborhood.
Fraim endorsed her Thursday night.
Williams will be opposed by Sonya Smith, a former member of the city's Economic Development Authority who works at the Norfolk Community Health Center.
Councilman Barclay C. Winn, also endorsed by Fraim, announced last month he will seek re-election in Superward 6. He will be opposed by public relations consultant Marcus Calabrese.
