A police officer was acquitted Friday of passing contraband to an inmate at the city jail.
Sherron Paige, 48, was accused of giving a cellphone to an inmate, according to police. A General District Court judge dismissed the misdemeanor charge of unauthorized delivery of an article to a prisoner. Paige was charged in January, court records state.
Paige joined the Norfolk police in 1992, according to the department. She had been on active duty reserve status for several years since 2003, police said. Paige served as an active-duty soldier for much of that time, police said.
Paige is on indefinite suspension from the department, a spokeswoman said.

Norfolk Police Officer
Sounds like someone was looking out for this Norfolk Police Officer. Giving contraband to an inmate rather he or she is in an Local Jail or a State Prison is a felony. Had it been John or Joan Q. Public this person would be doing 5 years in a Virginia State Prison. I guess it is not what you know but who you know in the City of Norfolk.
No, its a class 1
No, its a class 1 misdemeanor for everything but a weapon & drugs. Those turn it into the felony.
