Don't like it? Leave

It always amazes me as I read thru
the comments, how readers complain
about the content of the newspaper...
yet they still continue to read
it. Hypocrisy rears its ugly head.

It's called awareness and

It's called awareness and not being ignorant. If one says they don't read the paper and then comments on an article in the paper, that is hypocrisy.

Come on, man

This article is the epitome of why trust is such an issue between media outlets and your general citizens. If the Pilot would have just added one small detail from the release - 60 days - readers would know that this is not permanent, just while the lighting is upgraded. Instead, we get an incomplete summary to create a grand uproar. See the press release on Portsmouth's site - the actual source. Pilot...seriously?

Well

I read where it said ‘during the lighting upgrade’ I didn’t think the upgrade would last forever. Some folks like to complain or are worried someone is getting something they not getting. Parking around City Hall is not a problem.

Quality newspaper...not

Things like you mention are the reason this publication is little more than a second- rate, podunk newspaper often not paying attention to details. This paper hasn't been good since Frank Batton, Sr. was in charge.

Not a resident, but

As a thought, what is the HRT performance status in Portsmouth? Do they cover enough territory with scheduling to make riding the bus a viable action? Could the city issue bus passes for their workers? How many workers stay there on a regular schedule in one place at the same time daily, and how many must travel as part of their jobs?

City Workers Before Citizens

I agree with the other commentors. Why do city employees receive better treatment than the taxpayers who pay their salary? This is the attitude that we've been dealing with for so many years and has become the norm for government workers...government before it's citizens. AND, then the bulk of the city employees drive home to Chesapeake or Suffolk where most of them live and spend their money! If Portsmouth wants to create a better image for itself as a Hampton Roads city, then it needs to start within it's own boundaries! Love to see the Pilot write an article on how many Portsmouth city employees actually live in Portsmouth!

and that's not all

when Luke McCoy quit as City Manager,

his last act going out the door

was to waive parking fees for city employees.

So, not only do these folks get the most convenient reserved spaces,

they get to park for free--------

Hmmm

Maybe because they work there and have to show up 5 days a week? Everyone else who shows up only to do business can park in the lot, on the street, in garage down the street, in the lot across the street, in the garage across the street, etc. Get the picture?

no parking in the parking garage

Will citizens be able to park there on Tuesday evenings for council meetings?
