HAMPTON

Police have charged another man in connection with a shooting in a Walmart parking lot Tuesday afternoon and are still trying to identify a man who was captured on surveillance footage from the store.

Randell Lamont Woods, 23, of Hampton was charged with maiming and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Hampton police took him and David Lamar Andrews into custody on Wednesday after a standoff at a hotel.

Hampton police were initially called to the parking lot of the Walmart shortly before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, said Cpl. Jason Price, a police spokesman. When officers arrived, there were no shooters on the scene, but evidence and witnesses indicated two people were involved.

About an hour later, Newport News police found a 28-year-old man in the 800 block of Skelton Way with multiple gunshot wounds. Hampton police have said he was involved in the shooting, but he has not been charged. The injured man was listed today in good condition at a hospital.

A preliminary investigation indicates an altercation took place before gunfire was exchanged and the shooters fled the area in vehicles, a police news release said. Both vehicles involved in the shooting were located.

Crisis negotiators persuaded Woods and Andrews, 27, to surrender peacefully around 10 a.m. Wednesday after police surrounded a Best Western in the 1800 block of W. Mercury Blvd.

Andrews and Woods were being held at the Hampton City Jail.

Police are still asking for the public's help to identify a fourth man wanted in connection with the shooting.

Anyone who knows his identity is asked to call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (562-5887).
