Simple sock monkey has a holiday resurgence

Posted to: Entertainment Holidays Life

He has no USB port, no battery, no gigabytes - and no business being so popular in this age of apps.

Try telling that to the sock monkey under the Christmas tree, surrounded by gadgets much smarter than he.

Born during the Depression, sewn from dad's old red-heel work socks, this monkey has reason to smile.

He's back, plucked from the attic by a wave of nostalgia and a longing for simplicity. Books, blogs and merchandise attest to his comeback. He even stars in a Kia commercial.

Perhaps the greatest evidence of his fame, though, came at the Target on Military Highway in Norfolk:

Under a small sign that read "sock monkey" were empty shelves.

I ♥ sock monkeys!

I love, love, love sock monkeys! I've been collecting them for a few years. During the year, they decorate my living rom but right now, they're all nestled under the tree. I also have a small sock monkey that travels with me. Photos of her vacations have proven very popular on Facebook!

Back to simpler times

My wife is getting a Kindle, and a couple other electronic items, but her favorite is the five foot sock monkey I found at a store in CT last month.
