Who would have thought that you could find kiwis, those exotic fuzzy brown fruits, growing on Knotts Island? Call Carol Watkins of Watkins Bee Farm & Kiwi Orchard on Knotts Island at (757) 650-3456 and place your order. Leave your name, how many kiwis you want and your phone number. Kiwis are 25 cents apiece and they come in bags of 20.
Watkins will deliver orders to the Farmers Market on Dam Neck Road on Saturdays until the kiwis are gone.

Local pecans - grab an apron full for pie
Fix a pecan pie the good old-fashioned way.
Bundle up the kids and head down to the Horsley farm, 3169 Land of Promise Road in Blackwater in Virginia Beach where you can gather pecans that have fallen from trees in the farm's pecan grove.
Call Diane Horsley for times, directions and availability, (757) 421-3625.
A traditional Tidewater feast for New Year's
Have an authentic Tidewater New Year's feast by stuffing a big, local rockfish with fresh crab meat. Because of the warm weather, crab meat still is coming in from North Carolina.
Find both ingredients at the Shellfish Company on Shore Drive in Virginia Beach. The Shellfish Company also has Lynnhaven River, James River and Eastern Shore oysters. Oysters from the shore come in the shell or in jars.
Call (757) 481-7512.
