VIRGINIA BEACH

Two dogs died, but no people were injured in a house fire Thursday night.

Virginia Beach firefighters were called to the 1100 block of Tall Oak Drive shortly before 7:30 p.m. The fire damaged most of the two-story structure, but was under control by 8 p.m., said Battalion Chief Ken Pravetz.

The family was home at the time of the fire, he said, and is now displaced. Most of the house has fire, smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Slow News Day?

Is this story really newsworthy?

When you live close to it? Yes

Speaking as somebody who's backyard was right next to the home that caught on fire last night, saw how big the flames got from the back of that house, and was scared about what might happen if the flames spread to their shed which was right next to our shed and potentially to our house, yes, it's a newsworthy story to me.

just perhaps

Yes, it is. A family is homeless. A neighborhood fire affects everyone in that micro-community. If it doesn't meet the "how does it affect me" gen-x test, then it's not newsworthy to you? Perhaps YouAreWrong?
