The highest-ranking enlisted sailor aboard the Virginia Beach-based amphibious dock landing ship Fort McHenry was relieved of his duties Friday amid allegations of misconduct.
Command Master Chief Donald Darcy had been in the position since May 2010. He was removed by the Fort McHenry's commanding officer, Cmdr. Ray Hartman, the Navy said in a news release.
A spokesman for Naval Surface Force Atlantic, Lt. Cmdr. Bill Urban, said he couldn't provide any information about what Darcy is alleged to have done because the matter is under investigation.
The claims of misconduct came to the skipper's attention Thursday, Urban said.
Darcy has been reassigned to a staff job with Expeditionary Strike Group 2 and a temporary replacement has taken over, the Navy said.
Urban said no one else has been implicated in the alleged misconduct so far.
Darcy, a native of Everett, Wash., enlisted in the Navy in 1988. He has deployed across the globe, including to the Arabian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm.
Before the Fort McHenry he was assigned to Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 126 (VAW-126).
The Fort McHenry is currently in port at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek.

MATTER OF TIME
This CMC thought he was invincible. Only a matter of time. Glad to see that leaders are being held accountable for their actions.
my opinion. . .
... To take down any Master Chief, there should be some sort of misconduct equivalent to a capital crime. Today's mamby-pamby, touchy-feely, politically-correct Navy is becoming a war zone of one miscarriage of justice after another. Stop with the nonsense and get back to deck-plate leadership. Throw the crybabies out, not our top-line dedicated leaders.
Hey "Chief"
Hey Chief or retired chief, Sounds like you fit into your crybaby category, obviously this man did something enough for the CO to relieve him. Your circle the wagons and protect the khakis attitude is out of the door. We expect the men who lead us to be living examples of honor. Obviously he did something dishonorable to warrant his firing. Don't worry, he will get his pension that he earned. He just won't be a morally corrupt Command Master Chief anymore. We expect the best of our top leaders and should accept no less.
