We welcome your opinion on public issues, in either of two ways. You can submit a letter to the editor for possible publication in the printed edition. The Virginian-Pilot welcomes letters to the editor on all topics, although concise letters (150 words or less) on public issues will receive priority. Letters may be edited for length, style and clarity and writers are limited to one published letter every month. Please add your name, city, street address and daytime telephone number for confirmation.

The other way is to comment on the published letters in this blog. In this online forum, you can comment as much as you want by using the comment box at the end of each entry.

Wind energy setback

THE RECENT NEWS that Dominion will not purchase electricity from the wind farm planned for Pasquotank and Perquimans counties is yet another demonstration of Virginia's largest utility's disregard for the welfare of Virginians. Dominion is willing to spend millions on a feel-good advertising campaign that touts the utility's green credentials, hundreds of millions on new natural gas plants and billions on nuclear, but wind and solar is always 'too expensive,' to quote Dominion CEO Thomas Farrell.

Apparently, Farrell's calculations fail to consider the cost of sea level rise and more severe hurricanes caused by global warming. As Virginia's single-largest greenhouse-gas emitter, it is time that Farrell and Dominion considered an accounting statement that was longer than one quarter or one year.

And for the climate-change skeptics out there, an investment in Iberdrola wind farm in adjoining North Carolina means good jobs for Hampton Roads. As a customer, I am more than disappointed with Dominion's failure to make major investments in wind and solar in Virginia.

Victory for consumers

Wind energy is hideously expensive, especially when the costs of backup power are considered. Dominion is protecting its customers by declining to include wind energy in its power mix.

Green energy is a fraud being forced on the public for political purposes and Dominion has served us well in protecting us from that scam.

Would have thought a doctor

Would have thought a doctor able to understand the physiology behind carcinogens raining from our skies. The only environmental stance you have ever shown on these boards is the plight of the menhaden. Guess you haven't invested in Omega to the degree of our General Assembly. You have stock in Dominion, deny it.

do your part

Just don't use any of that nasty old electricity and help clean up the environment.
