Boys hoops: Team effort has Cape Henry rolling

Posted to: Beach District High Schools Private Schools Sports

First-year coach Mark Hall has Cape Henry rolling.

The Dolphins (8-3) lost to Landstown in the season opener in a game they led most of the way, but have bounced back to win eight of their last 10, including a 58-54 win over Booker T. Washington on Saturday at the Seven Cities Rounball Classic.

The Dolphins won despite their top two scorers being in foul trouble - Jimmy Paige and Devon Hall, the coach's son, totaled just 14 points. But Chris Clark and Aryon Hutton carried them with 22 and 17 points, respectively.

"We executed our half-court offense to perfection," said coach Hall. "It was another total team effort."

Next up for the Dolphins: Saturday against Hampton at Phoebus High School. Crabbers guard Anthony Barber is one of the top players in the Class of 2013.

A WIN IS A WIN

Maury coach Jack Baker has been pleased with his team's turnaround.

After losing three of four during one stretch, the Commodores (8-3) have reeled off four consecutive wins, including a 59-45 win over Potomac, which was ranked No. 21 by Rivals.com

"Since Christmas we've been making some progress," Baker said. "The win against Potomac was a confidence-builder, so we hope to build on that."

Baker knows that won't be easy in the Eastern District.

"It's really a cliché but you really have to take one game at a time," said Baker, whose sixth-ranked Commodores travel to No. 5 Granby tonight. "If you look past someone, you'll get beat."
