Businesses near the Virginia Zoo that had already been hit by burglars were broken into again Friday night.
Windows were smashed at O Jardim Brazilian Cafe and Let's Go! Pet Care on La Valette Avenue between 10:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., according to Dave Wilber, the chief operating officer of Eggleston Services, which runs the pet center and provides jobs for people with mental disabilities.
Neither business had any cash inside because of break-ins in late December, he said. A monitor was taken from the restaurant.
Anyone with information can call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (562-5887). Callers may remain anonymous and still collect a reward.

The Sad Thing Is That There Have To Be People In The
Neighborhoods adjacent to the businesses that heard and saw the events, and in turn saw the hoodlums that did this. Unfortunately, the attitude of street code only allows this anti-social and anti-community behavior to continue. You can't expect the neighborhood to get better unless people (i.e. the affected community) work together to monitor each other's homes and when something suspicious is observed and/or a crime occurs, call the police immediately.
These businesses face the zoo and park,
not houses.
Why does there have to be
Why does there have to be people who saw this?
That is lower than low
The one I can't figure out is the building on the northwest corner of Colonial Ave. and 22nd Street in Norfolk that has had the windows smashed or shot out 2 or 3 times every week for at least 4 years. It gets to the point where you'd think someone would just station a police officer on the roof of either building immediately across the street for, at most, 3 nights to catch someone and send a message.
Still, repeatedly breaking into a building that serves people with special needs takes a unique degree of wretchedness that goes above and beyond.

If you can’t afford a burglary alarm in Norfolk, you can’t afford a business.

You do understand what the Louise Eggleston center is,correct? It's a NON PROFIT Workshop for mentally retarded adults. It's already operating on a shoestring budget. Why not be a good chap and give the center a nice donation so they can afford a burglar alarm?
Yes I do
Donated a car to them. Profit or non-profit, they need to get a burglar alarm.
And an alarm would have helped them how?
It wouldn't have prevented the windows being broken. In the time it takes for police to respond, the criminal will be gone. There was nothing of value this time, but there was video from the first robbery. The punk still hasn't been identified. The businesses should jointly hire an armed security firm to place someone in one of these businesses & when he comes back, all problems solved. Either he surrenders & is caught, or shoot him & save the tax payers $$.
I agree
And not be disagreeable suffolksplit, but what makes you think they don't have an alarm system?? My understanding is the police did in fact respond to an alarm. A smash and grab like these takes minutes. Video, which they do have, is the best aid to catch them, but there is very little other than physical security onsite that can actually prevent it.
And they struck YET again last night (Saturday). This time Riverview Coffee right around the corner on Granby. Same deal. Smash and grab of register. And yes, an alarm went off. Didn't stop the crime. Just got the police there to search the area and clean it up.

I meant to say GOOD for nothing punk.
