CHESAPEAKE

Police are warning residents about a telephone scam involving a lottery.

Three people in the Western Branch area have notified police that they received calls from someone claiming that they won the Powerball, Mega Millions or other lottery game, a police news release says.

The caller asks residents to go to a particular business to buy a “MoneyPak” card for up to $200 and then go home. The scam artist says he will call the residents back to get the numbers from the purchased cards to provide them with their winnings.

Police were reminding to check the offer or with a financial institution before making a financial transaction.

Do you have a phone number?

Do you have a phone number? I got a call like that from 210-301-0307 and I'm confused because when I looked it up, I got http://www.callercenter.com/210-301-0307.html where several complaints have been posted. But the complaints did not say the caller told them they won the lottery. Most were disconnected calls from the caller's end.

Can you guys check on this?

Suspicious

Sounds like someone is specifically
targeting the Western Branch area.
This might be a local scam.
