A man who barricaded himself inside an apartment in the 700 block of 36th St. surrendered to police Thursday night.

Shortly after 9 p.m., Norfolk police were attempting to make an arrest when the incident occurred, said Karen Parker-Chesson, a police spokeswoman. The special operations team and crisis negotiators were on the scene to try to communicate with the man.

Police were trying to serve robbery warrants out of Portsmouth on Daniel Rasheen McClenny, 21, when the incident occurred, according to Parker-Chesson.

Parker-Chesson said the peaceful surrender came at about 11 p.m. There were no injuries reported and police did not initially believe anyone else was in the apartment during the barricade.
