Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred in the Mary D. Pretlow Anchor Branch Library Tuesday night.
About 7:40 p.m., Norfolk police were called to the library in the 100 block of W. Ocean View Ave. for the reported stabbing. When they arrived, they found a man with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to Chris Amos, a police spokesman. The injured man, who was leaving the library when he was stabbed, was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said they took a man into custody after he returned to the library after having left earlier. Officers recovered a knife, the release says.
The circumstances leading to the stabbing were unknown.
Police charged Thomas Marshall Hamilton, 52, with felonious assault, the release says. Hamilton, of the 100 block of Balview Ave., was being held in jail.
