VIRGINIA BEACH

A Circuit Court judge Wednesday followed a jury's recommendation and sentenced Marshall Demetrius Moyd to 68 years in prison for the August 2008 murder and robbery of an undercover police officer during a drug investigation, according to the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office.

A jury in October convicted Moyd, 30, in the shooting death of Detective Michael S. Phillips, a married father of two, at the Green Run Square Shopping Center.

A second man, Ted Vincent Carter, is serving life without parole as the gunman in the crime.

A statement Wednesday from the Phillips family said in part: "May Mike feel peace in Heaven knowing justice has been served. We miss and love you."

Another burden on society for 68 years

What a waste of taxpayers money.Money that could go towards putting more police, firefighters or teachers on the job. He and others like him should only stay alive as long as their family, friends or any liberal groups want to pay all the expenses incured by keeping him alive. When those funds run out so does his time on the Earth. Justice was served? I hardly think so. A father, husband, son,LEO gone forever and this POS lives. Thats wrong , just plain and simply wrong.

Not enough

Three hots and a cot for basiclly the rest of his life. Seems like another tax burden for us working class. Taking out the trash, one piece at a time

RIP Detective Phillips

68 years for one and life for the other aren't as good as a lethal injection, but at least we know they won't ever be on the street again.

Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach is a dangerous place. Why anyone would want to live there is beyond me.

Virginia Beach

You must be on house arrest? The world is a ghetto today. Anytime people can get shot at Church, no place is safe!

are you serious?

you havent see norfolk, portsmouth, or suffolk? VB was rated the #1 best run city, IN ALL OF AMERICA. as well as #2 for raising a family. and why would anyone want to liver here? well for starts, the second part of the name of the city, BEACH. i love the fact that i can ride my beach cruiser on the bike paths from redmill to the oceanfront during the summer. i was born and raised in this great city. VB IS NOT A DANGEROUS PLACE!

Seriously

For every one shooting in Virginia Beach, I'll show you three in Norfolk....in one neighborhood.

So now the taxpayers have to

So now the taxpayers have to feed them the rest of their natural sorry lives. That's not justice...
