McDonnell backs selling naming rights for highways

RICHMOND

If you're interested, the governor may have a bridge you can make your own - or at least name.

As part of his 2012 transportation plan, Gov. Bob McDonnell has proposed selling naming rights to the state's roads and bridges.

The plan would allow companies to stick their names on bridges, roads and other transportation facilities for an annual fee, according to an announcement Friday from McDonnell's office.

The money raised would go for road maintenance.

The governor's plan also includes establishing a Virginia Toll Road Authority to construct, maintain and operate toll road facilities throughout the state.

The plan requires approval by the General Assembly.

How much

would it take name a state owned porta john after our favorite elected official?

Selling Names

If this SORRY Governor has his way he would sell Virginia to highest bidder or terrorist to make a Buck.

Who says Republicans don't have any ideas?

This proves how totally wrong they are. THIS is certainly an idea. Pretty lame. But it is an idea. Besides, we already know the country is for sale to the highest corporate bidder already. This fits right in.

WATCHIT!

Be careful! After naming the streets, the next thing will be for the new owners to set up toll booths on them. Oh, I forgot. They already HAVE that right.

Naming conventions?

Have you ever tried to find an address in Japan? The streets there have no rhyme or reason with name changes almost every block it seems. Here in HR, try finding someplace on Princess Anne Road. Was it fun?

Now change the street name every ten blocks.

Fooling yourself.

There is no such thing as a Protected Trust Fund. The money can be taken for other uses with the stroke of a pen at the whims of our enlightened leadership. Why do you think everyone is against raising taxes? It's not that we are zero tax, but because the money goes to build useless monuments to politicians. All these roads would be in great shape if there had been REAL public input instead of their all or nothing, cram it down our throats dictates on third crossings or obsolete highways bulldozed through brand new million dollar subdivisions. Well, this is the result. They get NOTHING, to the point we would rather pay a private company than give the politicians one more red cent! Blame them, not us!

Well this confirms it

Many people just start dreaming up criticisms at the mention of the name (yea, some do for Obama also). I read several comments and none even came close to explaining what is bad about this, just miscellaneous slanders.

if prisons are included

We could have the Safeway Red Onion Supermax State Prison.

Maybe his mentor

will but the rights to rename our state Patistan.

Ok, once you come to Ronald

Ok, once you come to Ronald McDonald road, go through the light and your next right will be Burger King lane, when the road comes to a T, take a left and my house will be the last one on the left at
1212 Taco Bell street.
