A July hearing is set to determine whether a North Carolina woman accused of abducting two Virginia boys should be sent to a psychiatric hospital.
Media outlets say a Newport News judge this week found 27-year-old Sommer Pannell of Greensboro, N.C., not guilty by reason of insanity.
Circuit Judge Timothy Fisher ordered that Pannell be committed to the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. Pannell scheduled a July 9 hearing to determine whether she should be hospitalized.
Police say Pannell abducted a convenience store clerk's two sons, ages 5 and 6, and took the woman's vehicle in July 2011. The boys were found safe the next day in Halifax, N.C.
