Police are searching for a 23-year-old man who was spotted running into his mother’s residence after officers heard gunshots fired.

Newport News police officers were near the 4700 block of Rochester Court when they heard the shots fired shortly before 8 p.m., said Officer Holly McPherson, a police spokeswoman. The officers saw a man with a weapon run into a home and followed. Officers were able to evacuate the man’s mother and another woman who was in a wheelchair, but a 57-year-old man was still inside with the shooting suspect.

A police tactical team was called to the scene at 8:18 p.m., but police learned that the man had been spotted escaping from a back window. Officers went back inside the house and confirmed that he was gone. The 57-year-old man was not injured, McPherson said.

Police cleared the area about 9:45 p.m.

The shooting suspect was identified as David Alfonzo Marrow of Newport News. He has three outstanding warrants for weapons offenses and a probation violation for possession of marijuana, a police news release said. He faces additional charges for tonight’s incident.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or Newport News police communications at 757-247-2500.
