NORFOLK

No injuries were reported in an early-morning fire in a closet inside The Rotunda building at 415 St. Paul's Blvd.

The fire was reported about 2:15 a.m. at the building, said Battalion Chief Harry Worley, Norfolk Fire-Rescue spokesman. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke on the fifth floor. The fire had been inside a hallway closet.

The building’s sprinkler system activated, but Worley did not know how much water damage was done inside the building.

The entire building was evacuated, he said, but it was unclear how many people were allowed back inside right away.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
