ODU shows enough to earn TV slot, trip to 'Show-Me' state

Old Dominion's good name in the "mid-major" community and recent hot streak got it some mileage Monday, when the Monarchs were selected for one of 13 televised games in the annual BracketBusters weekend.

ODU will travel to Missouri State on Feb. 19 in a game televised on ESPNU.

For the Monarchs, BracketBusters, the ESPN creation matching teams from outside major conferences, is less about boosting their RPI for a possible NCAA tournament at-large bid - no team from the Colonial Athletic Association is likely to get one - than receiving national exposure and playing a game that could harden them for whatever they face come March.

"There are 71 games in BracketBusters, to be one of the top 10, 11, 12, 13, that's pretty good considering where we were six weeks ago," coach Blaine Taylor said.

The Bears (13-10) play in the Missouri Valley Conference

"They're a senior-laden team, with a great home court that is a really difficult place to play."
