Our Virginia Stage Company has outdone themselves once again with their newest show, "Black Pearl Sings"

Our Virginia Stage Company has done it again!  “Black Pearl Sings” is nothing short of a masterpiece and truly speaks to our heart & soul. The thought-provoking plot involves a white woman in the 1930’s who works for the library of Congress. Her self-appointed mission is to search the rural prisons of the South looking for people with knowledge of authentic folk songs dating back to Africa. Her travels bring her to the one and only “Pearl” whose voice and knowledge of such music is beautiful, haunting and vast. The two women become unlikely friends as they both seek to find what they are looking for.

It's difficult to find the words to describe how perfectly performed the role of Pearl is. Her deep baritone voice slices through the air of our stunning Wells Theatre and cracks like a whip right in our faces.  Song after song is sung by Pearl with such embellishment and such strength. This show will inspire you, speak to you, and bring you to tears and we have our Virginia Stage Company to thank for this art. Well done the VSC!!!
